He shared with us where he sees the CAD industry heading, what he likes about Shapr3D and how it fits into his workflow.
3D printing case study: from idea to an actual 3D print
A few days ago, in late October one of our users, Steven posted a 3D printed item on Twitter. He created it with Shapr3D and printed it with his Prusa i3. This is the story how he got from the idea to an actual 3D printed item in less than a few hours.
Can you share some thoughts about yourself?
I’m Steven Quinn, a designer and developer from Arizona, who also happens to love 3D modeling. I have been working a lot with tools like ZBrush and experimented with software like 123D. So I am pretty knowledgeable in the space and have some first hand experience as well.
How Rodrigo Otazu, fashion jewelry designer uses Shapr3D
Rodrigo Otazu is a jewellery designer. He was born in Argentina and now lives in New York. His jewels are worn by famous people like Madonna, Rihanna, Britney Spears or Lady Gaga. Rodrigo is also a proud Shapr3D user.
How did you first come across Shapr3D?
Back in the day, I was always looking for people who could draw very well and interpret my designs. I have a friend, who is a painter. He helped me a lot for years, and as a gift, I bought him an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil. A little later he told me that there’s a great app that I might be interested in. This app was Shapr3D. So I downloaded the app and started using it.
I had very little knowledge of 3D design before, but Shapr3D was very intuitive to use. Had one session where the basics were explained to me and watched a few tutorials. This is how I got started. The rest is history.
However, it is important to note: you have to invest time into getting the practice. The program is user friendly, but you have to put the effort in to get very good at it. But it is worth the time.
How was your experience with the iPad Pro?
I bought an iPad Pro earlier, but didn’t really use it. I had the Apple Pencil as well, but there were not many apps that used its full capability. To be honest, I have never been a big friend of tablets. Until I found Shapr3D. I am completely crazy about it right now.
Now I only use Shapr3D to design jewelry items, necklaces, watches.
